Introductory Practical
This session is designed to give you practical experience of using
some of the most fundamental web-based tools in bioinformatics.
In this practical you will:
- Use BLAST and FASTA to search DNA and protein databases
- Use secondary protein databases
- Look at a specialized database
- Use Clustal to generate a multiple sequence alignment
- Experience tools for generating a model three-dimensional structure of a protein
You will use a selection of tools available on public web sites to
perform searches and explore databases. You will also do some short
multiple choice quzies to let you test your knowledge
Note: When you click a link to visit another
site, this will open a new window. All links you click will open in
this same window. You can make life easier for yourself, if you can
arrange the screen so you can see the two windows side-by-side, or can
easily switch between them.
The most important take-home
