Comparative (Homology) Modelling
This practical is about predicting 3-dimensional protein structure
using the best method currently available: comparative modelling. In
this procedure, the detailed 3D structure of an uncharacterised query
sequence is predicted using the structure of a related protein with a
similar sequence.
Introduction
This practical will introduce the ideas of comparative (or homology) modelling.
The objectives of this practical are:
- To understand the basis of comparative modelling.
- To have knowledge of the important factors for making a good prediction.
- To know how to use a popular resource for building models, SwissModel.
- To have experience interpreting the output of SwissModel.
- To understand the idea of evaluating the quality of models.
Instructions
- Use the menu at the top of the page to navigate the sections of
the tutorial. Work along each item in turn, or use the "Continue"
button at the bottom of each page.
- Read all the information on each page! It's
