Introduction to Bioinformatics

This web-based tutorial will guide you using some of the database searching and analysis tools available over the web. There are many such tools and this tutorial will only use a small selection of them.

Introduction

This tutorial will give you an introduction to web-based tools for Bioinformatics.

The objectives of this tutorial are:

to become familiar with the major worldwide Bioinformatics sites
to learn to do protein and nucleotide similarity searches on the web
to use the web to make multiple sequence alignments

Throughout the tutorial we are going to focus on two proteins:

the protein associated with cystic fibrosis
phosphofructokinase, a key enzyme in glycolysis where deficiency results in Glycogen storage disease type VII (or Tarui's) disease.

Use the menu at the top of the page to navigate the sections of the tutorial. Work along each item in turn, or use the "Continue" button at the bottom of each page.
